Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Brazilian JiuJitsu – or BJJ – is a grappling based martial art that focuses on ground fighting and submissions. The majority of training in BJJ takes place on the ground, teaching the participant:

  • how to intelligently defend themselves while lying on their back (where they are often the most vulnerable)
  • how to use leverage and technique to overcome disadvantages in size and strength
  • how to apply submission holds that will end any fight

JiuJitsu is a fun, safe and practical martial art that offers a full body workout while teaching highly effective self-defense skills that are applicable in a variety of real word situations. It is practiced in either the traditional martial arts kimono (“gi JiuJitsu”) or in shorts and a t-shirt (“no-gi JiuJitsu”)

Boxing

Our boxing classes focus on movement and conditioning, teaching the technical aspects of the sport so that our students can one day look like Mohammed Ali or Mike Tyson. We concentrate on stance, footwork, technique and strategy, using focus mitts with a class partner to simulate both the offensive and defensive aspects of the sport. Supervised sparing occurs in advanced classes. Students who train in boxing can expect a great workout that will burn fat, build strength, increase stamina, and promote fluidity in movement. Our classes are suitable for everyone, from total newbies to those looking to climb in to the ring. Sparing occurs only in the advanced classes, which are marked on the schedule.

Adults are expected to bring or purchase their own handwraps. The gym provides gloves for beginners, however members will need to buy their own pair after taking their first few classes.

Muay Thai

Muay Thai, which translates to Thai Boxing or Kickboxing, is the national sport of Thailand. It teaches students to use their fists, knees, elbows, and legs as striking weapons. Muay Thai classes offer intense, stress melting workouts with plenty of opportunities to hit the heavy bag and engage in partner workouts with mitts and pads. Muay Thai fighters are some of the best-conditioned athletes in the world, and are renowned for the focus and discipline.
